The Flight of Aeneas

Among the refugees of Troy was Aeneas, the son of a Trojan prince, Anchises, and the goddess, Aphrodite. Until the age of five, Aeneas was raised by nymphs on Mt. Ida before being returned to his father, who had sworn never to tell that he had lain with a goddess. He was widely regarded as one of the best Trojan warriors in the war, though he was not as mighty as the likes of Hector or in the ranks of Achilles, Ajax, or Diomedes on the Achaean side. A better comparison may be Odysseus, though perhaps a little less cunning and a little more honorable.

Like Odysseus, Aeneas was favored by the gods, who twice rescued him from battle when it seemed that death was inevitable. Also, like Odysseus, Aeneas would face a long and arduous trip after the Trojan War. With his home destroyed, he fled the city with his son, father, and many other companions after receiving instructions to do so from the gods, who did not want to see the legacy of Troy completely forgotten.
